How many people know they have gum disease?
25 February 2009
Professionals in the dental field will tell you that approximately 80 percent of the population may have some form of gum disease right now. That ranges from simple gingivitis to ravaging problems with advanced periodontal disease.
Now that number may seem kind of high, but it is the one you hear quoted most often. Gum disease is not a game. It can cause you to loose your teeth. In addition, it has been linked in studies to diabetes, heart disease, stroke (cerebral vascular accident or CVA) to lung infections and low birth weight babies.
The bacteria from gum disease gets into your blood – that can be the problem.
