What is functional hallux limitus?
The big toe joint in an important joint for normal walking and running. This is the joint that the body moves forward over the foot, so it has to have a full range of motion. If the joint does not have that full range of motion, then out ability to move forward will be less efficient and could become painful. If that joint does not move when we walk, then pressure is put on other joint to move at a time when they should not be moving. This can become painful. The most common reason for this joint not to move during gait is functional hallux limitus.
